Republican Party Primary Election- June 12, 2012.

Polls open at 6:00 A.M. and close at 7:00 P.M.

Deadline to register or change address to be eligible to vote in the Primary Election is

May  21, 2012 at 4:30 P.M.

Deadline to accept an absentee ballot application by mail is June 5, 2012

Deadline to vote absentee ballot in person is June 9, 2012.

The office will be open on Saturday, June 9, 2012, from 9:00 A.M. TO 5:00 P.M.

A reminder, the law requires that you show ID at the Polls.

Write-in, is not an option in Primary Elections.

VOTING RIGHTS ACT SUBMISSION PDF Print E-mail

The County of Wythe, Virginia, has filed an action in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia seeking a declaratory judgment under the Voting Rights Act of 1965, as amended.  The purpose of this action is to obtain a declaration from the Court that the County is and has been in full compliance with the Voting Rights Act and, because of its compliance, it may obtain an exemption (known as a bailout) from the special preclearance provisions of the Voting Rights Act as provided in 42 U.S.C Section 1973b.

Further, the County intends to reach a settlement of this action with the United States Attorney General.  Any person desiring information on the bailout process or desiring to review the County's submission to the Attorney General may contact the County Administrator, R. Cellell Dalton, at 276-223-6020 or at 340 South Sixth Street in Wytheville, Virginia.  All submissions are available for review and copying.

Request for Bids PDF Print E-mail

The Wythe County Board of Supervisors is currently accepting bids for Miscellaneous Fire and Rescue Equipment. Bids must be received no later than 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the County Administration Building, 340 South Sixth Street, Wytheville, VA 24382 to the Attention of Martha Collins. The envelope must be clearly marked “Miscellaneous F&R Equipment Bid”. Bids received after that time, postmarks notwithstanding, shall be rejected. As soon as practicable, negotiations will begin with the vendor deemed to be fully qualified and best suited among those submitting proposals.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED ISSUANCE OF A BOND BY WYTHE COUNTY, VIRGINIA PDF Print E-mail

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Supervisors of Wythe County, Virginia (the “Board”) will hold a public hearing on the proposed issuance of a bond by Wythe County.  The estimated maximum amount of the bond is $1,369,871.  The only proposed use of the proceeds of the bond is to pay costs of capital improvements to the County’s sewer system.

The public hearing, which may be continued or adjourned, and at which persons may appear and present their views on the proposed bond issue, will be held at 7:05 p.m., or as soon thereafter as the matter may be heard, on May 8, 2012, before the Board in the Board Room of the County Administration Building, located at 340 South Sixth Street in Wytheville, Virginia.

Board of Equalization Meeting Dates PDF Print E-mail

In compliance with Section 58.1-3378 of the Code of Virginia and Amendments thereto, the Board of Equalization for Wythe County, Virginia, will sit to hear complaints beginning Monday, April 30, 2012 and ending on Friday, June 22, 2012.

The Board of Equalization will sit on the following days in April 2012: 30.

The Board of Equalization will sit on the following days in May of 2012: 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 21, 22, 23, 25, 29, 30, and 31.

The Board of Equalization will sit on the following days in June of 2012: 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22.

The Board of Equalization's Office is located at the Wythe County Courthouse, 225 South Fourth Street, Room 102, First Floor, Wytheville, Virginia 24382-2599. The Board of Equalization will hear complaints, concerning the 2012 Reassessment, by appointment only. Between April 30, 2012 through June 22, 2012, any person owning land in Wythe County, Virginia, may make an appointment to have their reassessment complaint heard by the Board of Equalization. Appointments can be made by writing the Board of Equalization or in person at the above address, or by calling (276) 223-4142 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon.

If the Board of Equalization does not complete its business during the time allotted, additional dates for the Board to sit will be established and public notice will be given as prescribed by law.
